Microsoft is retiring EWS

Microsoft is switching off Exchange Web Services (EWS) in Exchange Online. If you send email from B1 Print & Delivery through Exchange, that route will stop working. Boyum has already added a replacement: a Graph API delivery method in B1UP.

What Microsoft is changing

End of September 2026: last chance for an admin to allow-list apps and keep EWS running for now.

1 October 2026: Microsoft starts blocking EWS in tenants that haven't acted.

1 April 2027: EWS is removed from Exchange Online for good.

This only affects Exchange Online. Users running their own on-premises Exchange Server are not affected.

Who needs to act

Any user using the Exchange delivery method in B1 Print & Delivery with a Microsoft 365 mailbox. It doesn't matter where the email is sent from. The Exchange method stops working everywhere:

How to move a customer

1. Upgrade B1UP and the Server Component from 2026.06 HF08 or later.
2. In Microsoft Entra ID, check that the B1UP app registration has the Microsoft Graph Mail.Send permission with admin consent. Boyum's Graph API configuration guide walks through the full setup.
3. Find every email action set to Exchange and change it to Graph API. Check each company database, and don't forget actions used by Mass Delivery and schedules.
4. Test from both sides: an email sent by a user in the client, a Mass Delivery run, a scheduled job, and a send from a shared mailbox.
5. If you can't finish before 1 October, ask the customer's admin to allow-list the B1UP app as a short-term fix. Then switch to Graph well before April 2027.

Things to watch

Client secrets expire, and when they do, sending stops. Write down the expiry date. Also, by default the Mail.Send permission lets the app send as any mailbox, so ask the customer's admin to limit it to the mailboxes you need.

Bottom line

The fix is ready and the deadline is fixed. Upgrade B1UP, switch to Graph API, test, and you're done. Start with the customers who depend most on scheduled emails.
