You can specify custom fields on the second tab of the Settings modal. You can also open it directly by selecting Settings from the top menu bar, then clicking the second icon from the left as shown below.
Here you can see four sub-tabs that allow to specify custom fields for jobs, task and resources, respectively, as well as to set further special fields for tasks. They are discussed one by one below.
Job Custom Fields
By default, the Custom Fields tab opens at the Job Customfields sub-tab, where you can list as many as 10 custom fields assigned to production orders (jobs) with field name, and potentially, default value. These fields will then appear in the tooltip when you hover over a production order in your plan, and are also displayed on the Additional Info tab of the Manage Job Details modal, where you can also edit their values.
In the example below, we have specified two job custom fields, one with the default value "X". (The other fields is blank by default.) The first screenshot shows the specification under Settings, while the second and third ones demonstrate the result in the job tooltip and the Manage Job Details modal, respectively.
Task Custom Fields
The second sub-tab of Custom Fields settings allows you to specify custom fields at the task (operation) level. A total of 11 fields can be defined. For ten of them, you can enter any string both in the Name and Default value columns. The one on the top of the list, carrying the label ColorAsField is different. You are free to choose its name, but its default value set is limited to the options of the corresponding dropdown. The items on the dropdown list are specified on the Color As Values sub-tab of the Custom Fields settings modal. (This sub-tab is discussed in the last section of this article.)
The custom fields that you specified for your tasks (operations) will then be displayed on the Additional Info tab of the Manage Task Details modal, where you can also edit their values.
In the example below, we have specified a ColorAsField called Special info and two "ordinary" task custom fields, Operator instruction and Warning. The default values are "Important" (selected from the dropdown the options of which were specified on the Color As Values sub-tab), blank and "Be careful!", respectively. The first screenshot shows the overall specification under Settings, the second one focuses on the specification of the ColorAsField, while the third one demonstrates the result in the Manage Task Details modal.
Resource Custom Fields
The third sub-tab of Custom Fields settings allows you to specify up to 10 custom fields assigned to resources with field name, and potentially, default value. These fields will then appear on the Custom Fields tab of the Manage Resource Details modal, where you can also edit their values.
In the example below, we have specified two resource custom fields, Lessor and Location, with the default values "Earthshaker Corp." and "Aarhus", respectively. The first screenshot shows the specification under Settings, while the second one demonstrates the result in the Manage Resource Details modal.
Color As Values
Go to this, fourth, sub-tab of the Custom Fields settings modal to specify the options to be listed on the dropdown designed to select the default value for the ColorAsField custom field that you can assign to a task (operation). (The use of the ColorAsField task-level custom field is explained in this article in the Task Custom Fields section.)
In the example below, you can see the four options that come with Schedule by default. You can edit them, and also delete any number of them or add new ones using the checkboxes on the left and the icons in the top right corner of the table.
The option "Important" that we selected in the example in the Task Custom Fields section is marked with an orange ellipse. The second screenshot below demonstrates the dropdown under Task Custom Fields.
