Using RFID with Produmex WMS & SCAN: How does it work ?

  • Updated

RFID means that the customer is tagging their products with an “RFID TAG”.
These tags are similar to a barcode label and can be read by an RFID reader to identify a product.

Example label by Zebra:

Zebra RFID Label, 110x13mm, Printable White PET, 3" core, 869MHz, 1000/roll (Silverline Slim) | eD system a.s.

There are typically 2 ways the customer want to use these RFID tags:

1. Using PDA devices with an RFID reader

This RFID reader will be used instead of a barcode reader to individually “scan/read” items.
See below some example devices from Zebra

When working this way, nothing needs to be changed in WMS or SCAN.
We can simply scan/read the RFID tag whenever we would normally scan a barcode.

2. Using RFID Gates

These RFID gates are like a (big) doorframe, where an operator can drive a pallet of items trough.
At this moment, the RFID gate will scan/read all the items on the pallet and their according quantities (and potentially batch number or other information)

When a customer wants to use these gates, an integration will need to be created/used by our partners:

  • Produmex SCAN: works with standard SAP inventory and BIN locations, so a standard SBO integration can be created/used here to register the scanned inventory.
Example: Import a .CSV file from the gate, and use this to create a standard SAP GRPO document.

  • Produmex WMS: works with the WMS UDF's for BIN, Quality Status, LUID etc. to capture additional information that is required for WMS.
Example: Import an .XML file from the gate, and use this to create a SAP GRPO document, including the Produmex WMS UDF's that usually do not require dynamic values, for example:
    - BIN (U_PMX_LOCO) could be set to "RECEPTION1" depending on where the gate is located
    - Quality Status (U_PMX_QYSC) could be set to "RELEASED"
    - LUID (U_PMX_LUID) could be set to value "-1" so the WMS will created a new SSCC for each line
