While Gmail is a great service it is very difficult to get to work as an SMTP server. In this article, we will try to address the most common issue.
Setup in general
- In SMTP server field set it to
- Set used port to 587
- Enable "TLS"
- Enable "Use Authentication"
- Enter your Gmail username and password under credentials (NB: leave domain field blank)
Now test if it works via the test button.
If still not working then log into your Gmail and then in the browser Address bar go to the following website: https://myaccount.google.com/lesssecureapps?pli=1
Here turn on "Allow less secure apps" (Yes that sound bad but SMTP is by google deemed as "Less Secure")
If still not working and you use Two-factor Authentication you also need to generate an application specific password (your normal username/password will not work)
