Operations can be scheduled and rescheduled effortlessly through intuitive drag-and-drop functionality, enabling quick and interactive adjustments directly within the planning board.
Shifting the timing of operations
To schedule an operation, simply move it horizontally along the time scale, either in the Production Order View or the Resource View. This reschedules the operation to be executed at a different point in time.
Assign an operation to another resource
In the Capacity View, operations can also be moved vertically during scheduling, allowing you to assign them to a different work or machine center. As a result, the operation will be carried out by the new resource it was moved to. While dragging, a 'phantom' bar remains at the original position to indicate the change until the mouse is released.
Move multiple selected operations
The VPS enables you to select and move multiple operations at once—streamlining the scheduling process. You can do this by either holding down the Ctrl key while clicking the desired operations or by drawing a selection box (rubber rectangle) around them.
This feature must be enabled in the VPS settings, where you can choose from the following options:
- No multiple selection (default)
- Select only production order routing lines assigned to a single capacity
- Free multiple selection (select any combination of operations)
Selected operations can be moved horizontally and vertically, the behavior of their predecessors and successors depending on the settings in the VPS "Setup".
Moving Selected Operations Together with Predecessors and Successors
In the VPS, selected operations can be moved both horizontally (in time) and vertically (to a different resource). When multiple operations are selected and moved, their behavior - and that of any linked predecessors or successors- is governed by the settings defined in the Setup dialog.
Handling of Linked Operations
When moving multiple operations:
- The selected operations are repositioned first.
- After that, the VPS evaluates and moves any predecessors or successors as necessary, based on your configuration.
This ensures that dependencies are respected and that the overall sequence remains consistent, where applicable.
Capacity Assignment Logic
The capacity target is determined by the operation being moved with the mouse.
- If moved horizontally only:
All other selected operations will also move horizontally, regardless of the resource they are assigned to. Their original capacity assignment remains unchanged. - If moved vertically to a different resource:
All selected operations are reassigned to the new capacity (work or machine center) of the operation being dragged.
This approach enables flexible yet controlled multi-operation scheduling across different resources, while respecting routing dependencies.
Handling the progress status of an operation
- "Finished": the operations get selected, but will not be moved
- „In Progress": as before, the user can decide per upcoming dialog which operation should be moved or not
Handling of reservations
Provided you have activated the "Conflict Handling of Reservations in the VPS "Setup" dialog, you’ll get a warning message if one of the selected operations violates the reservation, and the complete moving process will be rejected.
Show links
In analogy to the behavior of when single operations are moved, links to other elements are also shown when multiple selected operations are moved.
Direct parallel routing
No parallel routing is carried out for multiple selected operations
Due date line in the capacity view
- In case the operations get selected by clicking, a due date line will be shown for the first clicked element only
- In case of multiple selection via the rubber rectangle, no due dates will be shown
