Throughout this article, we assume that the resource master data in SAP Business One are set to the defaults triggered when you create a resource in Build:
- Unit of Measure Text = min;
- Time per Resource Units = <0:01:00>;
- Res. Units per Time Period = 1.
For other cases, see Resource time management in Netronic Manufacturing with proprietary resource master data in SAP Business One.
Build expresses resource capacity / usage in time. In the operation plan of an item or that of a product request in Build, the usage of a resource is characterized by its
- Setup time, i.e. the time it takes to make a resource ready for production, irrespective of the produced quantity; and
- Job time, i.e. the time it takes for the resource to produce one unit of the given item / product.
The example above shows the operation plan of item S30001, a wheelset. The operation Assembly requires two resources: an assembly machine and a senior technician. The senior technician needs 10 seconds to get ready for work (Setup time is 10/60=0.167 min) and then 1 hour and 2 minutes to complete a unit (Job time is 62 min). It takes 15 minutes to turn on and warm up the assembly machine (thus its Setup time is 15 min), and, once it is up and running, it completes a wheelset in half an hour (its Job time is 30 min).
All three resources used above have their Resource Master Data form filled in in SAP Business One as shown for the assembly machine earlier:
- Unit of Measure Text = min;
- Time per Resource Units = <0:01:00>;
- Res. Units per Time Period = 1.
The operation plan specified for an item in Build is automatically synchronized into a bill of materials in SAP Business One. The same holds for the operation plan in a product request, with the difference that the synchronization happens when the request is released.
On the other hand, when a bill of materials is changed in SAP Business One, this will be automatically reflected in the corresponding item's operation plan (but will not be reflected in the operation plan of any product request that may refer to the same item).
Now let us have a look at the bill of materials generated in SAP Business One from the operation plan for item S300001, the wheelset, shown above.
As you can see, the Setup time and Job time values in the operation plan in Build have been copied into the Additional Quantity and Quantity columns of the bill of materials, respectively. Synchronization happens both ways: If you change the values in the bill of materials of an item in SAP Business One, the corresponding values will automatically change in the item’s operation plan in Build.
Thus, the synchronization flow can be summarized in the following table:
Build / Item operation plan | <-> | SAP Business One / Bill of materials |
Setup time | <-> | Additional Quantity |
Job time | <-> | Quantity |
