The item list
To see the items already specified in the system, select Items in the main menu on the left. The list of items will be displayed. You can easily filter the list for produced or purchased items by clicking the respective tab headers over the table. Produced and purchased items are indicated by a yellow and blue side bar, respectively.
Click an item's name to open its detail page. An item detail page contains three tabs (see the linked pages for further reading):
On the right of each item on the list, there is an options (°°°) icon. Clicking it displays a popup menu. The Edit option opens the item's detail page, the Delete option removes the item.
Deleting an item removes it from your ERP system. In addition to the ERP validation rules, Build performs the following checks. An item can be deleted if:
- it does not have a product request,
- it is not part of an operation plan in a product request,
- it is not part of a bill of materials in a product request,
- it is not assigned to an item template.
Creating an item
If you need to create an item, you can either click the + Add item button in the top right corner of the list (shown in a green frame in the screenshot above), or click the + Add new button beside your profile picture in the top right corner of the screen and select the corresponding option from the popup menu.
Both ways you get to the Create item page.
In case there are 13 or more entities to show in this page, you can select from a dropdown list. For 3 to 12 entities, the options are displayed as big radio boxes. One or two options are represented by small radio boxes.
Select the New item from template tab (which is the default, seen in the screenshot above) to use an item template and thus make the setup faster.
When a template is used, the base item master data is duplicated from your ERP system. If the base item is deleted, the template disappears from Build.
You will need to specify the following data:
- Category - An item code category must be set in your ERP system for the items. This categorizes the item and helps adding the item code, for example for serial managed items.
- Item code - The ID of the item. Take into consideration the limitations described in Use of special characters in primary keys.
- Item name - A descriptive name of the item.
- Item template - Select the box of the template required.
- Unit of measure - Select the box of the unit of measure required.
- Item group - Items must belong to a group. Select the box of the required group.
To create an item from scratch, select the New item tab on the Create item page.
Here you have to specify basically the same data as in the previous screen, with the difference that now, rather than picking an item template, you need to select the box of the procurement method used for the item: produced or purchased.
If your ERP system is SAP Business One, then, if an item is not created from a template in Build, the Issue Method SAP Business One field is set to Backflush by default.
Make sure that the item details are edited in the product request rather than in the master data, otherwise the changes are overwritten by the product request release process.
