Build uses product requests to store all the information that is necessary to build a new product or update an existing item. In other words, product requests are the single source of information for the development and production process. The information contained in a product request can come from external sources, such as drawings from a CAD software, exported material lists, and more, but also can be entered in Build itself. As stakeholders prepare a new product or change an existing one to be ready for manufacturing, the corresponding product request moves through its lifecycle, from New status to Completed.
The planning board
You can easily set and track the content and status of your product requests on the planning board. This Kanban-style board is updated in real-time. To open it, select Product requests from the main menu on the left.
The Product requests page will be displayed that, by default, opens on the Board tab. Each product request is represented by a ticket on the board. The board's columns represent request statuses:
- New
- In progress
- Awaiting approval
- Completed.
As product development evolves, you can drag and drop the requests across the columns.
Click the title of a request to view and edit its details.
When you hover over a ticket, an options (°°°) icon appears. Selecting it, you have the option to delete the given request.
The product requests list
If you prefer to see a simple list of your product requests, select the List tab on the top of the screen.
The list view contains the same information as the board, just in a different format. Click the title of a request or the code of an item to check out or edit the corresponding details. You can also delete a request in list view by selecting the options (°°°) icon on the right side of the screen.
Creating a product request
Starting to develop a new product or modifying an existing one begins in Build with creating a product request. To do so, click the Add product request button in the top right corner of either on the Board or on the List tab.
As a first step, you are prompted to enter a descriptive title for your new request. With the title provided, your request will appear as a blank ticket on the board, in the New request column. Click the request's title to open it and start adding details. Clicking the title of any request will display its detail page. The screenshot below shows a request detail page right after the request has been created. The only detail in it is its title:
In comparison, below you can see a product request where the details are fully filled in.
The Product request page consists of six tabs. Select from the below links to read about them.
