Be able to do Inventory Counting by just scanning batch number
PlaneadaThe sole purpose of using a mobile scanning app is to speed up the process. In Inventory Counting, if we can simply scan a batch number, it will automatically have an item associated with it, a quantity and a warehouse/bin. If there are multiple items associated with a particular batch number, then the item selection can be made from a list. If the quantity available in system varies with the physical quantity, then it can be edited on screen.
99% of the physical inventory is mostly in line with the system data, quantity for 1% variation can be edited on screen. Inventory counting would be so much faster if we can scan a batch, see the data read on screen, rectify if required, post and then move to the next batch.
Above changes could be implemented using some master settings keeping in mind different requirements for various business.

Hi,
Thanks for the detailed description and for sharing the underlying motivation behind this request — we fully agree that speed and efficiency are key goals when using a mobile scanning solution.
That said, what you are describing represents a fundamental shift in the inventory counting paradigm compared to both SAP Business One and Produmex Scan.
In Scan, inventory counting is intentionally designed around where stock is located (warehouse / bin) rather than what stock exists, which aligns with the standard SAP Business One inventory counting logic. The flow you propose is closer to a stock correction by batch than to a location-driven stock counting process, and therefore falls outside the current product vision of Scan.
However, from a customization perspective, a solution along the lines you describe could be feasible once the 2025.12 release is available, leveraging upcoming enhancements that allow dropdown fields on custom screens.
One possible approach could be:
-
Add a custom batch field on the initial selection screen, implemented as a dropdown listing the batches available in the selected warehouse/bin (requires 2025.12 UI enhancements).
-
Use the selected batch to prefill warehouse/bin and item automatically when the batch uniquely identifies a single item.
-
If a batch is shared across multiple items, present an additional item dropdown (requires 2025.12) on the next screen to allow the user to select the correct item.
-
Once batch, location, and item are determined, the system quantity can be prefilled, allowing the user to adjust it only when a variance exists.
This would result in a flow similar to:
Prefilled Batch → Location → Item → QuantityWhile this is not something we plan to deliver as standard functionality, it could be implemented via Scan customization for customers whose processes strongly favor batch-driven inventory validation.
