Item Master Data Manager - option to bring inventory to zero before making certain changes, then restoring stock levels
AnsweredThis idea is an enhancement of the Item Master Data Manager that would allow changes to those SAP item settings that require there be zero on hand quantity of the item before the change can be made. Examples including turning on / off Batch / Serial Tracking, changing the UOM Group, or changing the Costing Method, turning on / off Manage Inventory by Warehouse.
This feature would need to create a Goods Issue to bring the on hand quantity to 0, then do the indicated OITM changes, then automatically create a Goods Receipt to bring the inventory back in. It would have to preserve any existing batch / serial / bin data, and also have some way to generate a default batch / serial number if changing an item from non-tracked to batch or serial tracking.
Obviously this would be a slow process, one that would need to be be thoroughly tested in a user's sandbox / test system before deploying in a user's live / production system.
