ITP - Item relation hidden?

I have been making extensive changes to the Summary tab in Project Management using the Item Placement Tool.  In one case I originally thought that I would leave an original label in place, rename it and use it as an "anchor" for other items.  I changed my mind however and instead hid the original label and added a new Static Text in it's place. 

I of course attempted to remove reference to that item as an "Item Relation" however, this morning I discovered that one of my edit boxes was still tied to the, now hidden, item.  And my item is in the right place!

So, to my question: can we use existing items as relations even though we will "hide" these and move them to pane 999?  This is what seemed to happen and, if supported, it might be helpful.

  Hi Scott,

  As far as i understand how the panes and ipt is built, this should work ok. Also tested and you can use fields from different panes as the related field.
