In many areas beas save the document with complete folder.
But this is not good. Correct place must be the SAP attachment folder or picture folder.Additional you need a viewer to show the attachments.

Follow Idea:

- Save files without full path. Only the name and save the file in the attachment folder.
- Use the internal WEB Browser for displaying the picture or PDF Document. 
  In this way you don't need to start an external program. The internal WEB Browser 
  can display the most of formats.

For upgrade process: Copy all files from the defined folder in the attachment folder with unique name and delete the path (only, if the system can find the file) 

Example Quality Control, Work order Position and many more.

  Yes, it would be awesome to have the constrution pdf on the webapp 2.1.

  Especially connected to the sequences that I have started.
