Print & Delivery log clearing

We have millions (!!) of delivery/error lines in the log, this makes the DB very bloated and even populating/searching the logs results in terrible performance. Can we have a feature either by schedule or button to clean up the logs or get confirmation that we can simply remove the lines ourselves via SQL query?
One of the earlier responses allude that the system is checking data in these logs to determine if any documents were sent out, i don't believe this is case? It checks the flag on the object itself right?
